Welcome to the Office - Meet Kim
For more than 45 years, I have worked with and on behalf of some of the most marginalized, victimized, criminalized and institutionalized—particularly imprisoned youth, men and women.
With the privilege and platform of being a Senator comes a particular responsibility to represent those most marginalized. At the Senate of Canada, I focus on breathing life into the guarantees of substantive equality promised to all Canadians in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
I seek to work in collaboration with Senate colleagues and those with lived experience and expertise on initiatives to decolonize, decriminalize and decarcerate, including the development of Canada’s social safety net and the implementation of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
I believe that the contributions of people and particularly women who experience inequality, discrimination and oppression should be recognized and respected. I seek to maintain contact with and visit those in prisons who live the consequences of the laws that parliament passes relating to the criminal legal system and social services.
